Salon Hack: Bring Your Own Products

Guess what? You don’t have to give up being glamorous to be eco-conscious, green, organic, safe, earth-friendly, or non-toxic. You can still get your nails done and your hair did, but you need to know how to pick safe products!

All you have to do is bring your own product (BYOP) to your favorite salon. If I’m going to the nail or the hair salon, I always bring my own products. It’s easy,  just have a bag ready to go that you use for either visit. Where I live, there is actually an organic nail salon that uses the safest nail products available and organic lotions, scrubs, and masks. I try to support businesses that aim to do the right thing for consumers. So even when I don’t want my nails polished, I’ll go in for a hand or foot treatment. But when I’m traveling and want to get a manicure or pedicure and don’t want to risk the toxins, I just bring my BYOP bags and I don’t have to worry about the risks.

What are the risks? Beauty care products contain carcinogens, ethanolamines, parabens, toxic synthetic fragrances, hydroquinone, lead, arsenic, mercury, aluminum, acrylate, ethyl methacrylate, octinoxate, and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. Download my safe beauty guide to learn more.

Now, I realize that not everyone has options to go to an organic salon, so I’ve created these BYOP salon hack lists to help you execute; Project Pampering without Poisoning. If your favorite salons don’t support your safe beauty lifestyle, that’s ok, just bring your own!

When I’m getting a mani/pedi, I always bring a Nail Salon Bag:

Nail Salon Bag Items: Base Coat, Polish, Top Coat, Lotion, Foot Scrub, Coconut Oil, Nail Polish Remover.

Note: There is no such thing as organic nail polish. The brand I’m recommending here is the safest option out there. For this reason, I save nail polish for times when I want to get glam, not for everyday use. I like to buff my nails and go au natural 95% of the time.

When I’m getting a cut, style, or treatment, I always bring a Hair Salon Bag.

Hair Salon Bag Items: Shampoo, Conditioner, Heat Protector/Oil and Hairspray.

Unlike nail products, there are many organic hair products that are completely safe and great for your hair. The products I recommend here are products that I use. However, I could have listed thousands of safe hair products. Use my free safe beauty guide to find your favorites.

Disclaimer: I do not have an affiliate relationship with any of the products listed. These are simply my picks that work for my beauty needs.

Well that’s a good idea…. I never though to do that.
