Organic Turmeric and Ginger Rice

2 cups organic long-grain Basmati rice

4 cups of filtered water

2 teaspoons Himalayan salt

2 organic cardamom pods

One organic cinnamon stick

3 Tablespoons organic coconut oil (or ghee if you have it)

1/2 teaspoon organic mustard seeds or ground mustard seed

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

1/4 teaspoon chili flakes

1 medium onion, chopped

3 chopped garlic cloves

1/4 teaspoon turmeric

1/4 teaspoon ginger


  1. Cook rice as usual.
  2. Sauté mustard seeds, cinnamon stick, cumin, cardamom, chili flakes, and onion with coconut oil in a pan large enough to hold the spices, onions, and rice once finished. Cook mixture until onions are caramelized with the spices.
  3. Remove cinnamon stick and stir finished rice in the mixture.
